Indian Airforce releases Airmen notification 2 times a year. The 01/2019 notification has been released on 01 Jan 2019. The Mode of Application is Online and started on 2 Jan 2019. The written exam will be conducted in the month of March.

Duties and Work of Airmen in Indian Airforce

Airforce recruits its mainstream workforce as Airmen and the duties of Airmen depends on the type of trade they have applied for. The posts in Airforce Airmen are divided in to two groups i.e. Group X and Group Y.

Group X and Group Y are subdivided into categories based on the type of work in Indian Airforce. You can opt any of these categories if you fulfill the essential eligibility criteria.

Airmen Group X and Group Y Eligibility Criteria 2019: Who can Apply?

Indian and Nepalese Unmarried males who want to apply for Indian Airforce Group X and Group Y in 2019 must meet the essential eligibility criteria. There are 3 phases in Airmen Recruitment but to be eligible to appear in these phase, candidates must Apply Online first.

Essential Eligibility Criteria to appear for Indian Airforce Group X and Group Y is given below.

Airmen Group X and Group Y Age Limit 2019

The upper age limit on date of enrollment is 21 years. Candidates between 17-21 years are eligible to Apply for Airmen.

  1. Candidates born between 19 January 1999 and 01 January 2003 (both days inclusive) are eligible to apply.
  2. In case, a candidate clears all the stages of the Selection Procedure, then the upper age limit as on date of enrollment is 21 years.

Note: Upper Age Limit for Education Instructor Trade is 25 years (for Graduates) and 28 years (for Post Graduates). The Upper Age limit for Musicians is 25 years.

Educational Qualification for Airmen Group X and Group Y 2019

(a) Group ‘X’ (Except Education Instructor Trade).

(i) Passed Intermediate/10+2/Equivalent examination with Mathematics, Physics and English with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. OR

(ii) Passed Three years Diploma Course in Engineering in any stream, as mentioned in the drop down menu of apply online section under candidate’s login on the CASB web portal www.airmenselection.cdac.in.

The candidate should have completed the course from a Government recognized Polytechnic institute with 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English in diploma (or in Intermediate/Matriculation, if English is not a subject in Diploma Course).

(b) Group ‘Y’ {Except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician} Trades.

Passed Intermediate / 10+2 / Equivalent Examination in any stream/subjects approved by Central / State Education Boards with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.

(c) Group ‘Y’ Medical Assistant Trade Only.

Passed 10+2/Intermediate/ equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.

Points to Remember:

  1. Candidate eligible for Group X examination (on the basis of intermediate/10+2) are also eligible for Group Y and would be given an option of appearing in both group X and Group Y exam in one sitting while filling up the online registration form.
  2. Diploma holders are eligible to appear for Group X trades only.
  3. Education Boards listed in Council of Boards for School Education (COBSE) website as members, as on date of registration shall only be considered.
  4. Exact aggregate Percentage of marks before decimal as written in the marks sheet of 10+2/ Intermediate/Equivalent Examination/Three years Diploma Course OR calculated as per the rules of concerned Education Board/Polytechnic Institute shall only be considered (For example 49.99% shall be taken as 49% and not to be rounded off to 50%).

Examination Fee:

Examination fee of Rs.250/- is to be paid by the candidate while registering for the online examination.

  • The payment can be made by using Debit Cards/ Credit Cards/Internet Banking through payment gateway.
  • The examination fee can also be paid by Challan payment at any Axis Bank Branch

Group X and Group Y Airforce Medical Standards 2019

Candidates appearing for Airmen Group X and Group Y must manage to fulfill the following Medical Standards of Indian Airforce. General Medical Standards for both Group ‘X’ (Except Education Instructor Trade) and Group ‘Y’ {Except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician} Trades are as follows:

  • Height: Minimum acceptable height is 152.5 cms
  • Chest: Minimum range of expansion: 5 cm
  • Weight: Proportionate to height and age. However, minimum weight of 55 Kg required for Operations Assistant (ATS) Trade only.
  • Corneal Surgery (PRK/LASIK) shall not be acceptable.
  • Hearing: Candidate should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
  • Dental: Should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and minimum 14 dental points
  • Health: Candidate should be of normal anatomy without loss of any appendages. He should be free from any active or latent, acute or chronic, medical or surgical disability or infection and skin ailments.
  • Candidate shall be physically and mentally FIT to perform duty in any part of the world, in any climate and terrain. (b) Details of medical standards for various Groups/Trades are available on CASB web portal www.airmenselection.cdac.in
  • Permanent body tattoos shall not be permitted, however, tattoos only on inner face of the fore arms (inside of elbow to the wrist), back (dorsal) part of the hand/reverse side of palm and Tribals with tattoos which are as per custom and traditions of their tribes may be considered. However, right to decide on acceptability/unacceptability of the individual shall rest with the Selection Centre.
  • Candidates with permanent body tattoos shall submit two photographs (close up and distant view) with details of size and type of the Tattoo, during the second phase of Selection Test. 6.
  • Only Sikh candidates, whose religion prohibits cutting of the hair or shaving of face of its member, shall be permitted to grow hair and/or retain beard and moustache. Accordingly, those Sikh candidates willing to retain the same as per laid down specification are to get their photographs with beard and moustache.

IAF Group X and Group Y Syllabus and Exam Pattern 2019

The Test for Indian Airforce Group X and Group Y is quite similar. There are a total of 3 Stages of Test to recruit Airmen in Airforce. An Online Written Examination is conducted in Phase 1. Those who qualify in written examination are called for Rally Recruitment at mentioned venues.

Then, at last, a medical examination is conducted in the final stage for candidates who qualify the Physical Examination of Group X and Group Y.

Indian Airforce Group X Group Y Exam Pattern 2019

For Group ‘X’ Trades

Duration of the Online test will be 60 minutes and will comprise of English, Physics, and Mathematics as per 10+2 CBSE syllabus.

Group ‘Y’ {Except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician} Trades

Duration of the Online test will be 45 minutes and will comprise of English as per 10+2 CBSE syllabus and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA).

Both Group ‘X&Y’ Trades

Group X and Group Y Document List 2019: Documents Checklist for Rally

DOCUMENTS TO BE BROUGHT BY THE CANDIDATES DURING PHASE-II OF SELECTION TEST FOR INTAKE 02/2019 and 01/2020

  1. The candidates are to bring following documents while reporting for Phase-II of Selection Test at the allotted Airmen Selection Centre.
  2. Colour Print out of duly filled application form downloaded on completion of online registration.
  3. HB Pencil, Eraser, Sharpener, Glue stick, Stapler and Black/Blue Ball Point Pen for writing.
  4. Ten copies of un-attested recent (which was used for the online application registration) passport size colour photograph.
  5. Original and four self-attested photocopies of Matriculation Passing Certificate (required for verification of Candidate’s Name, Father’s Name and his Date of Birth).
  6. Original and four self-attested photocopies of Matriculation Marks Sheet (only applicable for three years Diploma Course holders when English is not a subject in Diploma Course).
  7. Original and four self-attested photocopies of Intermediate/10+2/ Equivalent Examination Passing Certificate and Marks Sheet
  8. Certificate for SOAFP (Son of Air Force Personnel), certificate for sons of serving/retired/deceased Air Force civilian employees paid out of defence estimates are to be downloaded as the case may be, from the download section of CASB web portal and brought along while reporting for phase –II of the Selection Test. Wards of retired Air force personal to produce original discharge book of their parents.
  9. Original phase-I Admit card used during phase-I on line test, bearing Air force seal and invigilator’s signature.
  10. For Candidates discharged from Indian Army/Indian Navy/Any other Government Organisation. Original and four Self-attested photocopies of Discharge Certificate (as issued from Indian Army/Indian Navy/Government Organisation).
  11. NOC in original and 4 self-attested photocopies from the employer for candidates presently serving in any government organization (if applicable).
  12. Original and four self-attested photocopies of NCC ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificate (if applicable).
