However, the participation of women in India started in India even before Independence. The Indian Military Nursing Service was the first service in which Indian Women took part. The Nursing Service played an active role in World War I and the World War II.
The formation of Women’s Auxiliary Corps in World War II also demarcated the foundation pillar of Women participation in Indian Armed Forces. But this all was under the British Empire in India.
Indian Airforce commissions women in all roles including combat and support. In 2015, the Indian Airforce allowed women to fill the positions as fighter pilots. Till now around 1500 female officers are commissioned in Indian Airforce on Combat and Navigator Roles.

Female Soldies who made India Proud
Women has been an integral part of the Indian Defence Forces since its formation but the roles and participation has been increasing in the recent times. India being a Male dominated country requires a lot of self-confidence and out of the league love to get the defence uniform and women have come out with great potential in every role.
Indian army still does not favour the intake of women in Combat roles in Infantry, Mechanised infantry etc. considering the situation along the borders but in other fields we have witnessed the leadership of Indian Women.
Among these, the most influential women are Punita Arora, Padmavathy Bandopadhyay, Mitali Madhumita, Priya Jhingan, Divya Ajith Kumar, Nivedita Choudhary. These women are real inspiration for the girls in the country and around the world who wants to join the Defense Forces.
Although, many forces has now allowed women to take part in field roles but whether to deploy women soldiers in direct combat or not, is still a debatable topic. In future, we may see women fighting for their country just like we remember Rani Jhansi.
Inference: Women in Indian Military Forces
Currently, their are numerous opportunities where women can be a part of the Indian Defence Forces. In a year, around 10 different applications are announced for women candidates by the Indian Defence Forces.
Interested girls may fill out the application available and try a little harder because the number of vacancies are really low. However, the competition is still similar that we see in male competitions.
If you believe in yourself and want to serve the Indian Military Forces, then don’t let go of any opportunities. There are a lot of chances to add your name in the list that we mentioned above. Indian Defence Forces also allows war widows to be the part of the Organisation. The age limit is somewhat relaxed for the war widows who wants to join the Indian Defence Forces.
