Indian Army GD Bharti Selection Process: Eligibility Criteria

To join Indian army GD the candidates should be physically fit. The physical test is a very important part of Indian army GD recruitment and this is the first process of your selection in the army. The Indian Army GD Physical Fitness Test carries 100 marks for the selection.

The Indian Army GD physical test mainly based on 4 physical activities which are necessary to pass in the physical test.

The physical test in Indian Army consists of:

Test 1: Height, Chest Measurement Test
Test 2: Running(1600 m)
Test 3: Pull-ups
Test 4: Balance
Test 5: 9 Feet Ditch

Indian Army GD Physical Fitness Test Eligibility Criteria

Indian Army has a specific set of standard requirements that all the candidates must meet in order to get recruited during the GD Rally. The young candidates must qualify in this eligibility criteria for Indian Army.

These requirements are to test the aspirants on various physical and mental aspects. These Eligibility Criteria are set by Ministry of Defence and are as follows:

Physical Standard Test Requirements are:

  • Candidates’ Height Should be 167cm.
  • Candidates’ Minimum Chest after the Expansion should below 77cm.
  • There should be a minimum expansion of 5cm.
  • Candidate should be free from the communicable diseases and cardiovascular, infections, surgeries.
  • Candidates’ Nose, Ear and Throat should be sound.

TIP: Height, Weight and Chest are also a part of Physical Standard Test but these are checked before the actual commencement of the Physical Fitness Test.

Indian Army GD, Clerk, Technical Physical Fitness Test (PFT) Details

Physical Fitness Test is the first and foremost part of joining the Indian Army in GD and other categories. For Indian Army GD, there are four types of Physical Fitness Tests (PFT) that you must go through before the medical test.

Indian Army GD Physical Fitness Test

1. Running (1.6km)

Running is the primary step of the selection method of Indian Army GD and also the category with the most competition. Thousands of candidates appear in every year to participate in the rally. Every candidate needs to run about 1 mile (1600m).

Updated Timings for Indian Army GD Running are:

  • Up to 5 Mins 30 Secs (Group-I)- 60 Marks.
  • From 5 Mins 31 Secs to 5 Mins to 45 Secs. (Group-II)- 48 Marks.
  • Above 5 Mins 45 Secs marked as a Fail.

2. Push Ups and Pull Ups (10)

The second test in Indian Army GD physical examination is the “Pull ups” test. All the candidates must do full body pull-ups in a wooden grip pull up bar.

The minimum number of pull-ups is 6 for which the candidate is awarded 16 marks.

The marks for pull-ups in Indian Army are as follows:

  • 10 Pull-ups 40 Marks
  • 9 Pull-ups 33 Marks
  • 8 Pull-ups 27 Marks
  • 7 Pull-ups 21 Marks
  • 6 Pull-ups 16 Marks

3. Balance (4m)

Balance is one of the trickiest tests during the Indian Army GD physical exams, there is a wooden plank which is 3 – 4m long and uneven in surface and the candidates must qualify it within 3 given tryouts and no marks are awarded.

4. 9 Feet Ditch

9 Feet Ditch is the last test amongst the physical examination for Indian Army GD. As the name suggests, in this test there is a 9 feet wide ditch which the candidates have to jump cross from one side to other.

No marks are awarded for this Test. You just have to qualify this test. No more than 3 tries are given for 9 feet jump. So, prepare for it carefully.

Note: After PFT, there is Document Verification Process. Before this, you must be aware of other Eligibility Criteria of Army GD such as educational qualification, age limit and Nationality also.
