These are two ways through which a class 12th pass candidate can join Indian Army. Either he can join Indian army as a Soldier or if he is talented enough, he can apply for Indian Army Officer Rank.

How to Join Indian Army after 12th as a Soldier?

Indian Army recruits Soldiers who are 12th pass in various trades. 12th Pass candidates can join Indian Army as Soldier Clerk, Store Keeper, Soldier Technical. For all these trades, 12th pass is the minimum qualification which means that to appear for the Bharti Rally of all these posts, you have to be 12th pass.

You can Join Indian Army as a Soldier after 12th as:

  1. Soldier Clerk/SKT
  2. Soldier Technical
  3. Nursing Assistant
  4. Sepoy Pharma
  5. JCO Catering

In addition to these posts, you can also apply for posts which requires 10th Pass or 8th Pass as the minimum qualification but only of you fall in the age limit for the posts.

Eligibility Criteria to Join Indian Army After 12th as a Soldier

Soldier Clerk/SKT

  1. Educational Qualification
    • 10+2 / Intermediate Examination Pass in any stream (Arts, Commerce, Science) with 60% in aggregate and minimum 50% in each subject. Should have studied and passed English and Maths / Accounts / Book Keeping in Class X or class Xll with 50% marks in each subject.
    • In case of graduate with Maths and English as subject in BSc, the stipulation of 50% in Class X or Class Xll is waived off.
    • In case of graduate without English and Maths/Accts/Book Keeping , he should have scored more than 50% in English and Maths/Accts/Book Keeping at least once in Class X or Class Xll.
  2. Age limit
    17 ½ – 23 Yrs

Soldier Technical

  1. Educational Qualification
    • Sol Tech- 10+2/Intermediate Exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English with min 50% marks in aggregate and min 40% marks in each subject
    • Sol Tech (Aviation & Ammunition Examiner)- 10+2/Intermediate Exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English with min 50% marks in aggregate and min 40% marks in each subject
  2. Age Limit
    17 ½ – 23 Yrs

Nursing Assistant

  1. Educational Qualification
    • 10+2 / Intermediate Exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with Minimum 50% marks in aggregate and minimum 40% in each subject.
    • In case the candidate has a BSc Degree with (Botany / Zoology / Bio-Science) and English, the stipulation of percentage in Class-XII is waived off.
    • However, the candidate should have studied all the four specified subjects in Class XII also .
  2. Age Limit
    17 ½ – 23 Yrs

Sepoy Pharma

  1. Educational Qualification
    • 10+2 / Intermediate Exam pass and qualified in D Pharma with Minimum 55% marks in aggregate and registered with State Pharmacy Council/Pharmacy Council of India.
    • Individual qualified in B Pharma with Minimum 50% marks and registered with State Pharmacy Council/Pharmacy Council of India will also be eligible.
  2. Age Limit
    19 – 25 Yrs

JCO Catering

  1. Educational Qualification
    10+2 or equivalent exam and Diploma / Certificate Course of a duration of one year or more in Cookery Hotel Management and Catering Technology from a recognized University / Food Craft Institute. AICTE recognition is not mandatory.
  2. Age Limit
    21-27 Yrs

Selection Process to Join Indian Army as Soldier After Class 12th

The Selection Process of Indian Army Soldier is almost similar for all the posts given above. The Process involves testing of Candidates Physically and Medically. A written exam is conducted after Physical and Medical Test.

  1. Physical Measurement Process: In the physical measurement process, candidates are tested for general measurements like measuring Chest, Height and weight. This is the very first test and Candidates must qualify this Physical Standard Process to be able to participate in the next test. Physical Standard for Indian Army Soldier is as follows:
    • Height: Western Himalayan Region (162 cms), Eastern Himalayan Region (160 cms), Western Plains Region (162 cms), Eastern Plains Region (162 cms), Central Region (162 cms), Southern Region (166 cms).
    • Chest: Western Himalayan Region (77 cms), Eastern Himalayan Region (77 cms), Western Plains Region (77 cms), Eastern Plains Region (77 cms), Central Region (77 cms), Southern Region (77 cms).
    • Weight: Western Himalayan Region (48 Kg), Eastern Himalayan Region (48 Kg), Western Plains Region (50 Kg), Eastern Plains Region (50 Kg), Central Region (50 Kg), Southern Region (50 Kg).
  2. Physical Fitness Test: Indian Army recruits young and energetic candidates. To test this, a physical fitness Test is organized in the Army Bharti Rally in which the candidates go through various physical test. Physical Fitness Tests in Indian Army are:
    1. 1.6 Km Run
    2. Pull Ups
    3. Balance
    4. 9-feet Ditch
  3. Medical Selection Process: The Medical Standards of Indian Army Should also be met. Candidates who qualify in this round are called for the Indian Army Written Exam. The Minimum Medical Qualification is as follows:
    • A candidate should have robust physique and good mental health.
    • Chest should be well developed having minimum 5 cms expansion.
    • He should have normal hearing with each ear and good binocular vision in both eyes. He should be able to read 6/6 in distant vision chart with each eye.
    • Colour vision should be CP – III (able to recognize white, red and green signal colors correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at 1.5 mtrs).
    • He should have sufficient number of natural healthy gum and teeth i.e. minimum 14 dental points.
    • He should not have diseases like deformity of bones, hydrocele and varicocele or piles.
    • Soldier General Duty for infantry should have 6/6 eye sight.
  4. Written Exam: To join Indian Army as Soldier after 12th, you have to clear the Indian Army Written Exam. Based on the post that you have selected, you have to appear for a written examination.
